- Personal Fitness Trainer Program (NAIT)
Jaco Labuschagne is a Performance Coach and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Goliath High Performance Training which offers services such as 1-1 training, small group, and team training sessions. His training philosophy has an educational approach and he ensures his athletes learn and understand their training, rather than mundanely going through the motions. This is especially predominant in youth training as he found a passion in inspiring and influencing his clients so that they are well equipped to train for life. Jaco specializes in injury prevention and rehabilitation training with a mix of both certified educational experience as well as practical hands on experience related to injuries.
Jaco is a graduate of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) with a Diploma in the Personal Fitness Trainer program. At NAIT, he learn principles around human anatomy and physiology, human biomechanics and movement patterns, sports performance training and athletic development as well as training for special populations such as youth, seniors and individuals with chronic conditions. Jaco also spent time with the NAIT Ooks Men's Volleyball Team as a Student Athletic Therapist where he received clinical and in game experience with taping and strapping joints, dealing with sports related injuries and administering first aid when needed. This gave Jaco confidence when working with individuals with injuries as well as assessing and prescribing appropriate exercise protocols.
Ensuring his athletes and clients understand their training as it relates to their aspirations is Jaco's goal. It is his personal mission to have you leaving your session with a new understanding of how your body moves and why you are doing what you are doing. His educational approach gets you in tune with your body and has you understand your performance which gets you closer to getting better!
Q: Who is an athlete you Admire?
A: Dan Carter. Growing up in South Africa, Rugby was the main sport I followed. Carter was the best of his time at his craft and there was no denying it. As I moved to Canada my love for the sport grew stronger as it connected me to my country, however it was not my country's team that would dominate the sport. It was the All Blacks, lead by Fly Half (#10) Carter. Carter earned multiple Player of the Year awards, All time International Rugby, and Super Rugby point scoring titles, two-time Rugby World Cup winner, and even the New England Patriots offered him a gig as their kicker!
